Conversation and Book Signing with Ormond Gigli

Join Sohn Fine Art and artist, Ormond Gigli in an intimate discussion with Ormond Gigli while he tells the story of his creation of the historic piece, “Girls in the Windows”, as well as tales from his prolific career as a celebrity and fashion photographer. Ormond Gigli became famous in the 1950s for his photographs of theatre, celebrities, dance, and exotic people and places.

His work appeared prominently on covers & editorial pages of Life, Time, Esquire, Paris Match, Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, and other major international publications. Gigli’s groundbreaking portraits include Sophia Loren (at age 21), Anita Ekberg, Marcel Duchamp, John F. Kennedy, Halston, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Gina Lollobrigida, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Sir Laurence Olivier, Alan Bates, Hildegard Neff, Richard Burton, and many more.

Ceramicist Michel Boroniec creates vases and then deconstructs them to create beautiful spiraling shapes that seem to defy gravity.  Michael will be discussing his process at The Wit Gallery and will be at the gallery throughout the afternoon to answer questions. Michael Boroniec is a sculptor and designer who resides and creates in Berkshire County, Ma.  He is a graduate from RISD and has shown in numerous museums and galleries throughout the United States in both group and solo exhibitions. Intrigued by creating art at a young age, Boroniec took to ceramics as a means of communication, expressing that earth is of the oldest material known to man. His sculptures link the historical implications of clay with contemporary Fine Art.

INSTAGRAM PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

Friday, April 26th – May 5th, 2019

Submit YOUR photographs taken in downtown Lenox, MA during ArtWeek festival and enter them on Instagram for a chance to win!

This is an open call for submissions to an Instagram photography contest, presented by Art Lenox. The contest will kick off on Friday, April 24th with a live stream on the Art Lenox facebook page. Cassandra Sohn, photographer and owner of Sohn Fine Art, will walk you through the event and fill you in on details about the contest. Throughout the week, at any time, you can also view an iPhone photography tutorial video on the Art Lenox instagram page or the Art Lenox facebook page. In the video, iPhone photographer extraordinaire, John Clarke, will present you with some tips for taking great photos with your iPhone! Follow Art Lenox on facebook and instagram to participate!

To submit, post your photo on your own instagram page and tag the submitted PHOTO (like you’re tagging a person in the photo) with @artlenox. Any format photograph taken in Lenox during the ArtWeek festival, April 26 – May 5, can be submitted. To qualify for submission, in addition to tagging @artlenox in your photo, please also tag the following in the text body of your post: @artweek, @visitlenox, @sohnfineart, #instagramphotocontest #artlenox, #artweek.

The photograph with the most likes wins the competition! The winner will receive a print of the winning photo in any size up to 42” wide on the long side, printed by Sohn Fine Art. www.sohnfineart.com

LENOX JURIED ART HUNT

Friday, April 26th – May 5th, 2019

This is a self-guided treasure hunt for artwork in downtown Lenox. Local artists are featured at participating galleries and boutiques (below). All artists are in a competition to win the juried show. The public are the jurors and the winner will be decided by the people’s choice. Seek and find your favorites and put in YOUR votes to help determine the winning artist of this juried show! By voting you will be entered into a raffle to win a basket of goodies provided by participating merchants. Represented by Sohn Fine Art Gallery, artist John Atchley opens his studio to the public for a behind-the-scenes view of his process, materials and works in progress. Primarily working with photography, Atchley also experiments with alternative printing process including photo transfers, gold printing on glass and encaustics. Atchley often photographs in nature but rather than creating literal scenes he focuses on color forms, the lights and darks, the subtle gradations or overall “feel” of a scene, or what he calls “distillations, breaking the composition down into its basic elements.
